EMDR Trauma Therapy

Children • Teens • Adults

A traumatic experience activates our threat response to help protect us, but if trauma is not addressed, we can suffer lasting impacts.

ABOUT EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process and heal from difficult or overwhelming experiences.

Sometimes, memories of stress or trauma can get “stuck,” continuing to affect how we feel, think, and respond. EMDR supports the brain to reprocess these experiences so they feel less intense and no longer have the same hold.

It works by activating the brain and nervous system’s healing processes, helping to ease distress and support you to move forward.

Compared to traditional talk therapy, EMDR can often help resolve emotional distress, unhelpful patterns, and deeply held beliefs linked to past experiences more efficiently.

Our psychologists have completed a range of EMDR training, including Level 1 and Level 2, as well as specialised training in neuroaffirming EMDR and working with children and teens.

  • Bilateral stimulation is a key part of EMDR. It usually involves gentle back-and-forth movements such as sounds, tapping, buzzies, light bar, and more.

This helps both sides of the brain work together to process experiences, in a way that feels healing and manageable.
